Default Re-positioning During maintainence

I am in the middle of replacing the u-joints in the Half shafts and the parking brakes on my '78. I decided I didn't want to work on the floor anymore, so I bought and installed a vehicle lift in my shop. I am wondering now if it is safe to get the car off the jackstands and push it into position for the lift without the half shafts installed. It'll have to be turned around to get it in the correct orientation for the lift.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Welcome to the forum. Be sure you mark the relative position of the U-joints before you disassemble so you can put them back in the same position in case there's any balance issues. The half shafts are actually a stressed member of the suspension so you probably shouldn't put the weight of the vehicle on the wheels without the half shafts connected.

Thanks for the reply (and the welcome). After looking at it some more and not seeing any upper support arms, I figured that was the case. I will install the shafts (all marked) where it sits and then get her on the lift for the remainder of the maintenance.
