Starter or battery or both?

Yup, my bet is, she dies from starvation. My guess is that the choke is not closing. DV8's right. It's getting colder, and the choke may not havebeen fully functional, even during warmer weather.
My next shot, would be to check filters. If ya blow through them at the "out" connection point, you would get some crud come out, or restricked flow. If it's O. K., then you're def headed to the carb. If the filters are clogged, change them. That might do the trick.

( It only tastes bad for a few minutes. )

That's why it's important to always change your filters.

With a cold engine, make sure when you set the choke by pushing the accelerator to the floor once, that the choke valve (the flap that covers the front two barrels) closes tight. If it doesn't then adjust it so it does. If you have to pump the accelerator several times to get it started and/or to keep it running when it's cold, then the choke is most likely the culprit.
