Transmission problems
Hello all I am new to the Corvette Forums. I have an issue with a 79 corvette. It leaks trans fluide all day. I put two bottle of Lucas stop leak in it and it still leaks. The problem is really bad when I cut the engine off and the fluide just runs out. When the engine cools back down it sloooowwwwwwly drips but not no where as much as when I first cut it off. the fluide is not leaking from the trans pan but up higher. PLEASE HELP! It has been sitting up for about ten years, It still drives fine and runs very quiet with no knocks. I have been going through, checking and replacing everything that really really needs to be replaced. Let me know what could be the problem, and how I might can fix it or what route that I might need to take to fix it. Thanks
Karlston

RE: Transmission problems
First, welcome to CF.
Sitting for 10 yrs? My guess if that the seals have gone bad. This means removing the trans and replacing all the seals. Do it before you cause any damage by running it out of fluid. Leaks are BAD, BAD, BAD!!!

RE: Transmission problems
Starship is correct it is most likly the seals.
Do yourself a favor and take the car to someone who knows about transmissions.
Get it fixed right and you should be trouble free for a long time.
It will cost you but it will be worth it.

RE: Transmission problems
Hi Karlston, to change the front seal you have to pull the trany, so you "might as well" get it rebuilt at the same time. Than the guy at your favorate trany shop will say "might as well" change the converter while were in there! Instead of Stingray it should say "Money Pit". Best to ya, PG.
