is the switch down where the clutch pedal is

 

The switch is high up above the clutch pedal. It is very hard to get to. Once you find the connector, disconnect it and place a jumper to bypass that switch. All your starting troubles will be over...of course just remember that the starter will then operate when the clutch is not depressed. BTW that safety switch is no longer available anywhere. Good luck.

 

Another thing, before you put it into reverse, shift it into 3rd , then reverse. Try that. That's what I have to do sometimes. Let me know if it works.
