Not sure, but my first thought would be the starter solenoid. even new ones can be bad. First check the battery terminal connections and make sure they are solid. Hope this helps. before long one of the resident experts will post the real answer. Good luck with it.

I had a starting problem today too, I got in mine though and turned the switch on and nothing, all the guages were illuminated and every thing seemed normal except when I turned the key it was like there was no battery power at all, not even a click, I got out and rolled the car back and forth and heard a click and got back in and blammo, started right up, I read in my hanes and it turned out to be the brake park interlock, the car has to be clicked tight into park for the ignition to turn over the motor, your problem kinda sounds like the starter bendix gear is binding against the flywheel, you could try shimming the starter, and see if that helps.

I bet if you have an amp draw test on your starter on the car, not off, you will probably see it pulling 500 to 600 amps which about 3 times as much as it should be. That means one of 2 things, bad starter or bad connection, B+ or ground. [8D]

It sounds like a bad starter to me, open or shorted winding when it gets hot or shaft bushings are worn out and armature is dragging when the starter is hot and expanded.

That's what's happening to me. Every one in a while it does it for no reason. My headlights are apart as I am replacing the gears but once that is done I'm going to replace the nuteral switch. Last year I did the starter over twice as well as the alternator twice as well. Seems like a bunch of us are having the same trouble. Before I parked it for my headlight project I was fueingl up and all of a sudden no start. I had some help pop start it and when I got home I tried starting and no problem at all. Everything works fine and I have plenty of power.
