87 Tail Light ground

87 Tail Light ground
Anyone know where the tail lights ground on an 87 coupe? I think they have lost their ground and may be trying to ground thru the turn signal indicators. I have traced some of my digital dash problems to the headlight switch, which I have replaced, but has gone bad too, and am going to replace again, this time I'm not using the AC Delco. I am thinking the taillights and the headlight switch problems are connected with the dash. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

On the convertible, I *think* (this is from memory) that the ground for the taillights is on the "wall" behind the passenger seat. You have to lean the passenger seat forward and pull up the carpet starting at the rear in front of the trap doors, below the courtesy lights (which have to be removed). This carpet folds over the ridge and you can feel the ground on the front side of the "wall".
If you want to test a direct ground, you should be able to get to the wiring through the hole behind the license plate.
Hope this helps... this is for a convertible, but I think the coupe is the same/similar. This is also from memory and my own experience on my 91 (should be the same).

Had the same problem
I had the same problem you describe on my '93. After an incredible amount of troubleshooting and tracing wires, I found that the problem was some corrosion in a male/female connector that was located on the side of the right-hand (passenger side) wheel well under the carpet. I cleaned and scraped the contacts and it cured the problem, but it was really hard to find.
