Default 87 vett over heating after maint

I removed and replaced thermostat and coolant. Now system overheats.
I let it run hot with cap off hoping to bleed air.
This helped some. but still overheats. Found no reference to bleeder screws on this model. what may be happening.
thanks,
zsteve

Is there the slightest chance that while you were not looking the thermostat turned itself upside down? I've had them do that occasionally.

I double checked thermo position. Is there any thing to air trapped in the system.

I make sure the recovery bottle is full and then put it thru several heat/cool cycles, keeping the bottle full,it should purge itself of air.
