A guy I work with had me go look at an 89 convertible for him that is for sale, red w/ blk top. When I got there, I thought I was looking at a 91-94. The entire car, exterior and exterior, looked like that, including the third stop light, which was on the bottom of the hatch, not on the top. It also had the 91+ wheels, three were chrome and one was brushed (although I didn't really look that close at them, they were definitely not 89 wheels) There was no one who had a key so I couldn't look at the engine or build codes, but he said the engine was flat on the top and didn't have tubes like the L98. So I guess my question is, who would go through all the trouble to turn an 89 into a 91+, or is this a freak from the factory ( I find that HIGHLY unlikely). The VIN is 1G1YY318XK5124XXX and comes back as an 89. I haven't seen the title. I will probalby go with him tomorrow to take a closer look. The car has 78000 and is in average shape. The guy wants 12500 (negotiable)Any comments?

perhaps the original '89 was wrecked and the vin and title were used on a later model for somereason like "stolen car." Like you I can't see someone going through all the trouble of changing everything over. But who knows. Good luck with it.
