Ecklers sells a tool (Or Midamerica does) to open a hood like you have. You can also make one but you will have to know the dimensions ( I don't know what those are). You can fashion some zip ties and attach to the hood release mechanism and run it up to the section of the hood that meets the windshield so if it happens again you can pull the sip tie and it will release the mechanism.
