Aftermarket Air Intake
I replaced my stock air assembly with an Aftermarket K&N filter set up I got off e-Bay for by Supercharged Grand Prix. A few months later by sensors were dirty by the throttle body. I had them cleaned on two occasions but it could have been coincidence. I liked the sound and the extra performance but do you have any thoughts on doing this to the C4? Should I just replace the stock filter witha K&N or get a whole aftermarket assembly? If the whole thing - any good links? I'm afraid of the e-Bay thing again. It was pretty low end.
cut lid+K&N is about 10 horsepower. Had the K&N and sold it because I needed the money for repairs. I am wanting to go with a whole aftermarket intake when I have the money...which isnt soon...As for when you first get teh K&N mine was a little to oily for my liking so I put it in front of a fan for a few hours to help dry out some oil**found that in the archives on another forum** Also researched it and some complained that it dirtied there MAF sensor but I saw K&N say that they wouldnt sell it if it did so I cant decide whos right.
Some say its the best and some say its the worst. It will save you money because it last forever and just needs a cleaning every so often.

My advice, save your money on air intake mods unless they're true cold/ram air systems bringing air in from the front of the car. And even then benefits are negligible until above legal speeds. I'd also recommend sticking with a quality paper filter for street use. The K&N absolutely does not filter as well as they do.
Sure do. Go to www.corvetteforum.com and use the search forum. Ask vader86**whos a total asswipe** or go to this site which I get my information from.

Go to minor mods:K&N Filter w/cut lidYou're looking at about 5-10hp gain on a dyno from running this on the L98. People are quick to point out weblinks that say its the worst filter ever, but ignore the longterm performance of this filter. If you compare a brand new K&N to a new paper filter, they'll flow about the same. If you wait 10K and compare them again, the K&N is ahead by leaps and bounds, and you shouldnt have to clean that K&N for another year.
Prove this guy wrong and Ill be happy.

Do you have solid and repeatable dyno numbers to verify this?

Do YOU have accurate information to prove the K&N doesnt filter as well as a paper?

I also stated that I recommend quality paper filters for street cars if you're interested in the best filtration. I am because I have more money in my engine than my '95 is likely worth. A few possible HP at 6,500 RPM is meaningless because my engine spends about .0000001% of it's life there. A stock or mildly modified engine in these cars is not likely to gain zip because until an engine actually needs the (minimally) additional flow, of what benefit could it possibly be?
So your 10 HP claim has now become 5-10 HP and your "source" is Vader's website. I'll give him his due and he's a sharp kid in his own right. But how he ever became a guru to some is beyond me. I could name you members over there all day long that have forgotten more than he's ever likely to know. He's done his homework on some subjects but these guys have actually been there, done that and bought the t-shirt. He also does have a bit of an ego and doesn't take being corrected or any dissent very well.
Also you admitted that a paper filter will flow about as well when clean. So for a street car, the only advantage seems to be that you won't have to buy a new filter every so often. So now that we've both presented our information, folks can decide for themselves. Buy a new, quality paper filter occasionally and have superior protection or delude yourself into thinking you've really modded your car by installing a reusable filter.
Yes hesa jackass. Yes hes very smart. Yes he is correct on the K&N and I still standby that it filters equal. Ill find the link that explains that when its dirty it filters better just as a paper filter will.
