Default Air filter change

I'm a new member and a new owner of a 96 LT4. Just bought the car this fall and it has 30K miles on it. I need to replace air filter as I know that it has never been replaced. Question is, is it worth the money to get a K&N air filter or just go with stock. It is hard to believe that you can much better on gas mileage, 27mpg and performance. Would like to hear some opinions. I'm sure this has been discussed to death. I also would like to know the reliability of this motor since it was only out one year.

It is not going to help that much unless you change the a/f setup to their intake setup, even then I don't know for sure. Most of the time, claims are not upheld.

Thanks LB I kinda figured the same thing. You can buy alot of filters for the price of one of those high perfomance filter. I'm more into having a nice lookin car than spending alot of money for performance.

I noticed slight breathability increase in my LT1.

I stay off the hammer pretty much tho'. I got the K&N mainly because it's serviceable, and I clean mine every 8 - 10 weeks. Your air filter is front-line in the power chain, and my two hamsters love clean air
