Default Amp guage bouncing

Howdy All:

Still geting my '94 LT1 sorted out. The "problem de jour" is a flucuating amp guage. When driving during initail warm-up, I notice that my speedo LED display background will dim & brighten slightly as I drive - which seems to correspond to fluctuation from the amp guage: Backlite brightens - guage moves to about 14.5 - backlite dims - guage drops to 9-10 amps. After about 10 miles of driving , everyhting settles down. My initail thoughts were to check/clean batt. terms and alt. conn. - did that, no change. Any suggestions on where I go from here?

TIA - A.D.

Mine does that when I turn on my turn signal indicators.

The voltage regulator is hunting, sounds like it's time to rebuild the alternator with new diode's, brushes, and voltage regulator which are all internal to the alternator, or just put in a rebuilt.

Don't waste your time trying to rebuild. The voltage regulator is not doing the job and rebuilts are fairly cheap, just stay away from Autozone. Very poorly and cheaply done.

My alt is whining, holds at about 14 volts- I'm sure it's on its way out too. Love my vette, but it is going to 50 dollar me to death

Amp guages and volt meters are entirely different.

Are you sure what you have is an ammeter?
