Default Codes?

I have had 3 Corvettes, but my others were from the 1970s. I just wanted to ask how to check for codes. What type of device should I have?

Thats going to depend on if its OBDI or OBDII. Depending on the year you can use a paper clip. Need to know the year to point you in the right direction or you can take it by Auto Zone or Pep Boys, they should pull the codes for free.

I have had auto parts stores pull codes on other vehichles for me. However, Iwas wondering if there was a maching or device that I could purchaseto be able to check codes myself.

If you look at the diagnostic connector, short the 2 cavities in the upper right hand corner together with the key on and the check engine light will blink codes for you. Each code will bling 3 times with a series of long then short flashes. Pay no attention to code 12 which will blink 1st.
