Underneath my 86 vettes' hood there is a black ball next the left hand side marker. It is bolted onto the wheel well. There are two hoses. One runs to the cruise control and the other seems to run inside the dash. Does anyone know what this mysterous black ball is?

Cruise control vacuum reservoir.

 

It is the vacuum reservoir for all vacuum controls on the car. It is there so you will no get a vacuum loss during acceleration as vacuum drops when you step on the throttle.
