Just as a note, if you just disconnect the 1 o 4 function the ECM will see an open circuit and set a trouble code to warn of the solenoid failure. The part to Disable is under 20 bucks and really easy to install.[8D]

I think that only applies to OBD II cars.

Educate me - what is it you are disabling? WHat is '4 to 1' anyway?

Scroll down to C4's. It has the basic info there.

So the '4 to 1' being referred to here is the Doug Nash 4+3 Transmission then? I have that in my '86 and would love to be able to disable the automatic feature only - that is, I'd love it if it only kicked in when I wanted it to. Is that possible?

The only one I'm familiar with is the ZF6.

So then I ask again, what is meant by 'how to disable the "4 to 1" feature on my C4 manual six-speed tranny?'

The ZF6- speed has a computer controlled lock out which forces you to go from 1st to 4th. This was CAFE..a gas saving feature.

By disconnecting the electrics at the tranny solenoid this feature is disabled & you again have control of all 6 speeds.

I am going to assume that the 1st gear to 4th gear feature only happens at certain RPM's, right? Otherwise, why have 2nd and 3rd gears?
