Headlight noise and stops rotating?
I have a 1992 corvette. One of the headlights gets stuck once in a while. It will rotate part way and then stops, if I quickly give it a tap it will finish its rotation.
I have also noticed that when I shut off the car it stays in the closed position position but it clunks, like its trying to close, when it is actually closed. It will do the same if I disconnect the battery and as soon as I connect the battery the headlight clunks in the closed position???
Anyone else have this problem?

Hi brucek, sounds like you may have a worn gear and/or it needs delrin bushings.

I had an issue with mine where one side would work sometimes, and sometimes not. All I did was disconnect the connectors, cleaned them, and reconnected them and haven't had a problem since
The noise you are hearing is the motor still trying to rotate because the gear is stripped. The motor has a limit circuit built into it so when it meets resistance, it stops working. Replace your gear mechanism with metal gears as yours are probably plastic. [8D]
Thanks mech259.
I am going to do the repair myself. I found one set of instructions that was confusing. It mentioned that when you take it apart you have to becareful not to pull the shaft out because you will not be able to get it back in because the brushes will close behind it. Then another part of the article said you had to pull the shaft out???
Do you know if you have to be careful not to pull the shaft out?
Thanks
Bruce

I just done this repair my self, you can do it too it`s most probly not the gear or the motor but the bushings in the gear i used a 1/2 inch wooden dowel rod cut to a 1/2 inch long to replace the plasticbushings witch were eat to bits. now mine work great cost me 2 dollars and some time...
P.S. the bushing is located between the plastic gear and the metal cap on one side of the gear, check to see if you have any loose screws on light bezels as well

Had the exact same issue with my 88. ordered new gears and bushings, total cost apx 40.00,and did it myself in apx 3-4 hours total for both sides. The bushings in mine had turned to dust but the gears looked perfect, went ahead and replaced these sine it was apart. I found a site that showed how to repair them along with pics. Take your time and it should go smooth. The hardest part was driving the pins out of the linkage, still not a big deal though.
