How much cooler does the engine run at 87 degrees with 160 thermostat? I also live in anarea where the summers can exceed 80 degrees. Are you happy with the Hypertech chip? I just received mine & am a little hesitantto install it with the negative feedback on this forum. My mods so far are SLP cold air intake, air foil & Magnaflow mufflers. Thanks

First off. I think some of the responses on here are bull......but i wont point any out. I didnt mean my post to be taken to that it will "HURT" your car. It will NOT HURT your car. It is a waste of time if you expect ANY NOTICABLE....can we emphasize noticable....horsepower. Yea, you might get a few ponies for all the technical guys out there. But its a waste. I installed a 160 thermostat and thats it along with a good radiator flush. My car never exceeds 185 in 90+ weather. Next which I suggest is a good mod, is the manual fan switch. You can control the fan on and off whenever you like which is in my opinion VERY good for the L-98. I suggest to you"cruznroadking" to NOT install your chip. Return it. Buy a 160 stat and go to www.ecklers.com and get the manual fan switch and run it thru the underhood and put the switch right by ur steering wheel where the speedometer sits. Like I suggested earlier, www.pcmforless.comDo yourself a favor and just LOOK at there website. Trust me, its guaranteed. Once I am done modding thats where I am going. Also, if your looking for you car to run cooler, keep the cooling system UP. I saw a quiestion on the becool radiator. No I have not tried them. Yes they are a good brand but if you are in the market, I would suggest a Dewitts radiator. VERY good. Lowers the temps 10 degrees from stock and cools down fast during acceleration. No matter what you do unless you run your fan 24/7 then your car is going to get hot during idle. Thats the way the motor was designed. You can have your car programmed with the aftermarket chip to have the fans come on at 185 and cut off at 195. Thats a good spot. Keep it cool but not kill the motor either. Also, big help CLEAN UP THE UNDERHOOD. Our cars are vacum cleaners**front nose breathers**, make sure your spoiler is on properly, no debris. Keep your radiator fins straight if they are not too damaged. Flush out your cooling system with antifreeze and distilled water. Do not...do not....use tap water....it has harsh chemicals/minerals in it that will eat away at the rubber parts of your radiator over time. Do not buy the premixed coolant/antifreeze either.

LeesVette, I have no idea where you live, but, here in Ontario, Canada, Oshawa to be exact, it is very hard indeed to see any Vette on the streets after September 15th. I was wondering if you drove your Vette in the Winter with all that ice and salt/sand( "freeze my *** off in the Winter".) I also have a performance chip + 160* thermostat installed along with several other "bolt-on mods, and the temperature in my Vette never exceeds 87*F during the Summer months. Maybe I'm just lucky....

Really haven't had much experience with Hypertech other than the newer Vets with programmable PCM's (97 and up). The couple of times I have had experiences with them, haven't noticed any negligible difference because the customer hadn't changed any hardware on his car.
