Looking for a C4, need advice.
hello people, my name is Karsten, and im looking for a gen 4 corvette.
really i dont know much at all. i've been told by a freind to avoid anything before 87 because of certain issues including FI system.
as it is now im looking between 90 and 93. in a perfect world i would just buy a ZR1 but unfortunatly i dont think i can spring the 20k price tag.
my price range as of now is below $8000. i know, its pathetic, but this is the only reason im really interested in a C4 vette. its the most bang i can get for my buck. truthfully, i dont even really like chevrolets (flame away), but the corvette has always kinda been my exception.
anyway, what years/models should i avoid? what things should i look for when buying? if i did decide to bite the bullet and deal with a $400 a month car payment and go with the ZR1 what should i look for in those?
i know my question is very broad, sorry about that. any and all positive input is appreciated!
thanks,
Karsten.

Hey you're just like me. Ive always been a ford guy, and if ford had made the corvette, this would be a perfect world.
i recently saw a zr1 for $11,000 on ebay...so that would be the first thing i tell you, shop around and you will find a good deal. and dont settle for a $7,000 vette that has some interior damage, because it wont be worth it and i promise there are great looking cars with no issues for the same price. when buying your car, decide what options you want, color, etc. stick shift or auto, lt1 or l98, vert or hard top. decide if you like the square tail light styling or the round. there are enough vettes for sale out there where you can get just about exactly what you want. id say anything after late 86 would be good. i have an early 86, and besides the wishing i had the improvements they made halfway through the year, i am very happy! i personly like the round lights and digital dash, but to each his/her own

you can take a look at this and it tells you all of the changes that took place throughout the c4 generation.

One thing that really caught my eye were some notes in the 84 and 85 paragraphs. "The 1984 Corvette was a complete redesign in almost every aspect. Handling considerations dominated and the result was praised by the motoring press ans the world's best cornering automobile." "In its January 1985 "ten best" issue, Car and Driver magazine pronounced the Corvette to be America's fastest production car at an even 150mph top speed. Corvette also took top honors in top-gear acceleration and tied for best (with Porsch) in roadholding as measured by 0-force skidpad adhesion."
Ive only had my vette for about a year, and was too young to remember when it came out....but i realized that i am driving what was at the time, the best all-around sports car IN THE WORLD. how many people can say that about their car? [8D]

My 92 LT1 (the year of the return of the LT1) runs fine, even with a lot of miles. Think you would be happy with an early LT1 if you so choose. Hope you are able to find a nice car at a decent price. Good luck!

Ok, first find a good mechanic, who is willing to help you out. Throw in a lunch for his/her time. The late 86 model is a good year to start looking. My 86 only has 83k, paid less than $8,000 for it. Yeah late 86 and later are good years..C-ya
