MAF sensor
Hello everybody.....newbie to this forum. I own a 1989 c4 6spd. In july we did the RTE 66 trip in my C4. Ran good but recently it's been having issues starting. The engine cranks and like it wants to start then dies. Do it a couple times and will eventually will start. The other day I got a check engine soon light for first time, or first time I noticed it. I had it checked and a code 33 came up. It showed as high temp wire on MAP or something like that. Others said it was in the MAF possibly needing cleaned. Well I go to remove and clean it and I find that it's not even connected. The wire connector has been snipped off. What's up with that...? I thought it wouldn't run without MAF. Could this be part of problem...?
Was it disconnected intentionally...? Should I reconnect it...?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I'm surprised having the MAF sensor unplugged didn't set a DTC in the computer. But yes it should be connected. As far as the starting problem, I would check the fuel pressure with the with the engine running and then shut the engine off and see how long it holds the pressure. Also check the pressure with the key on and engine off.
