ORIGINAL: 94 Black on Black
What would be the easiest way to figure this out? Would taking it and having the codes read tell me what wrong?

Find the device itself. For example, let's say electronic positraction control in the differential. Then find the power input to the device. In thisexample, it would be at the differential. If there's no power TO the device, the computer knows only that the device ain't workin', and sends a code to light up the light in the instrument panel.
Then there could be powerTO the device, but the ground is bad. Again, the computer knows only that the device ain't workin', and sends a code to the instrument panel.
I don't know where the ASR device is. I just got this '94, also with this device, two months ago, so I haven't gotten into it that deeply yet.
Do you have a multi-meter?

You need to check the codes and troubleshoot from there. The ASR is tied in with the ABS and controlled by the same computer. It also receives input from the PCM (powertrain control module) which is the computer under your hood, above the battery. You can flash the codes on your digital readout on '94s and '95s by jumping pins 4 and 12 on the datalink connector. It will show codes for all three main computers, the PCM, the ABS/ASR computer and the CCM which is the central control module.
