Optispark issues
Hello, my 1994 vette started shutting down when hot. I had an h16 code, so i had the opti replaced. All was good for a while but after a few thousand miles it started happening again. Im well aware of the short life span of the aftermarket optisparks, so frankly i wasnt that surprised. I dont mind some light mechanic work when i have the time, so i decided to replace it myself when i saw the h16 code had returned. Before i started the opti R and R, the car would at least still start when cold, however, after putting the new opti in it will crank clean, but just wont start. I like to think im not so unlucky as to of simply pulled a defective opti out of the box, however i know its surely possible. Anyone have any ideas for me? The opti went on easily and is flush with the case. I dont think that can happen if i dont have it lined up correctly on the cam, right? Could i have messed with the timing when i rotated the crank shaft to remove the bolts from the harmonic balancer? I did so for convenients sake, and it didnt seem like i needed to worry about being top dead center when putting it back together. Am i wrong? Is there anything i can double check that i may have over looked? Any advise would be much appreciated!
i appreciate your reply, unfortunately i had to give the old one back for warranty...
While I'm not familiar with the Optispark setup, it sounds like it is just a solid-state electronic distributor. If so, it would have to be timed correctly with the crank and camshaft. A Factory Service Manual would definitely be a big help in this circumstance.
