Question Re: K&N Air Filter
I have heard various opinions of the K&N Air Filters but a couple of statements were made along
the lines of it being a good filter and could increase h.p./performance but only with a "split lid".
What exactly is being referred to as this application with a split lid?

RE: Question Re: K&N Air Filter
A cut lid. Its when you cut the front of the air filter housing off to expose the entire face of the filter to open air. Your not going to get much gain if any from this mod. Its not worth the trouble IMHO. Here is a good way to blow $75.00 : http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...p;dept_id=1756
Or just take a Dremel and cut out the face of your existing one.

RE: Question Re: K&N Air Filter
K&N is OK, but the stock Vette has a pretty big filter, there is little restriction there, if the motor is stock there probably is little or no advantage in the K&N. If your motor is modified, the K&N will let in a little more air. One potential problam area is that the oiled paper of the K&N can allow oil to migrate to the mass air flow sensor, usually after cleaning and oiling (over oiling) the filter, and cause fuel trim problems or set codes for rich or lean fuel, Oxygen sensors or MAF perofrmance. If you do use the K&N be very careful not to over oil it. It does not need to be cleaned very often unless you drive in dusty, dirt road areas.
