Default Those da**ed headlight doors

I have an 84 with the dreaded headlight door issues. Both headlight motors have the brass gears in them. Doors would open most of the time. Now they won't open at all. I replaced all three of the relays and still they won't open. Could it be the headlight switch or something else? If I unplug both motor connectors and open the doors manually and then plug them back in the doors will close on their own. Is there a fusible link somewhere for these?

Welcome to the forum.

I'd check to see if voltage is getting too the motors.

Yes, I would check the voltage also, and especially the grounding. Make sure you have a good connection. If they are both doing the same thing I would doubt it's a motor issue. I'd have to dig out my Haynes manual to check the wiring diagram so I'm not sure if there is a fusible link or not but it doesn't seem like that would be the problem. I'll try to check that this evening and see what I come up with.

Checked what I have for a wiring diagram and do not see a fusible link for the motors. Possible switch problem or as I said before check your grounds. Each side has a relay and the ground goes thru them, plus the third isolation relay which supplies the ground to the motor system. Good luck!
