Is it possible to create true duel exhaust setup on an L98? still needs to be emissions legal (texas, not too strict) for atleast 4 more years. Im thinking about long tubes, but is there a way to get two small cats, maybe an H-pipe, and then the catback exhaust? i havent heard of anyone doing this, just curious if its possible.

 

What year is your car? My '86 is a true dual exhaust, complete with two CAT's.

 

86 like yours. do you have headers?

 

No headers, just the stock (exhaust) manifolds.

 

you can put true duals on any engine, i got magazines that sell the stuff for l98's come on man.

 

so where can i find the cats?

 

86's from the factory came with 2 primary-cats funneled into a main secondary cat then back to duals. If yours only has the 2 just under the manifolds, someone has probably taken the secondary one out and blocked off the downstream air induction from your smog pump diverter valve. Downstream air from the pump helps burn off nitrogen oxide , as well as any unburnt fuel inside the secondary cat for tailpipe emmisons.[8D]

 

sorry i should have been more clear....i have a stock exhaust system now, all 3 cats. i want to get headers and perhaps borla catback. i know my cats are on their last leg so they will be replaced. the two precats will be deleted because of the headers, and i will replace the main cat with a nice 3-way, but i think it would be cool to have true duels. i know it would be easy to put on one of those kits they sell, but those dont have provisions for cats. if i can get some custom pipes coming from the headers, into 2 small cats, then off to the mufflers....thats what im looking for. now if there is no benifit to true duels, then ill be happy to go with my origonal plan. i was just seeing if its been done.
