Default unplug EGR solenoid?

I was reading another post and was wondering what would be the consequences to disconnecting the EGR solenoid plug. What about removing the vacuum hose from the valve? Can someone please describe the consequences good and bad... Thanks-Kevin

Default RE: unplug EGR solenoid?

My understanding of the the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is this...It recirculates exhaust gasses back into the combustion chambers, and being that the exhaust gasses won't burn, it tends to help cool the combustion chamber. If the EGR valve is unplugged, or not operating properly the combustion chambers can get hot enough to cause detonation (engine ping). When the knock sensor mounted on the engine block detects the pinging, it in turn retards the timing to try and stop the pinging, in effect reducing engine performance. So, in my humble opinion, the EGR plays a vital role in optimal engine performance.

Cheers
