Default VAts

Have you tried unlocking the car at the door using the key? If it's off, then it could be the resistor on the key isn't being read. Try cleaning off the resistor and the slot in the ignition where it fits with alcohol or good cleaner.
If that doesn't work, then you can get or build a alternate resistor that plugs into the wiring instead of reading the key. If that works then you're done, if not then you have something else wrong.
You need to match your key up to the right value but this will override reading the resistor on the key: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/catal...=vat&x=32&y=10

Default Alarm

My 86 does not have a fob for the alarm. You arm it using the power locks on the doors and disarm it with either the power lock button or using the key.
Did you use the power lock button in your test?

Unforunately that's about all I know on alarms other than they can be a pain if not working correctly.
