Need to know if there is any special methods or products that should be used. I know that certian antifreeze will deteriorate components.

 

You want to use Dex-Cool coolant. To flush I drained out as much as I could then re-filled with water. Ran the engine to operating temp tp get the water circulating and then drained again. I did this until there was pretty much just water in the system. Then refill with the Dex-Cool/Water mix. I found that there was quite a bit of water left in the system (can't remember exactly how much) when drained so you need to addan adjusted amount of coolant mix.

 

You'll need to know what the water jacket holds.

 

I won't have tap juice left in my twister after doin' a flush. Too many chemicals in it. AND, you don't know how much is actually left.

I'll put a shop-vac on every hose. It'll pull 3 more quarts from a GM 350, and almost as much from a GM 4.3L. Nasty jam[:'(]. Not circulatin' in my stuff.

 

I think you are supposed to use distilled water. I chose not to do this and I may regret it, we'll see. W.r.t knowing what was in the systemI just paid attention to the amount of fluid I drained out, subtracted this from what the system is known to hold (in the factory handbook, along with fluid type) and then topped back up. Took the car for a run to get everything circulating and thoroughly mixed. The C5 is not that easy to disconnect all pipes and hence this route seemed affective.

Some municipalities use a very high concentration of chemicals in tap water. In our bodies, there are no chemicals which will bond [chelate] with tap chemicalsto form particulates. Not quite so, is the case with tap chemicals and coolant chemicals.

I know that one cause I missed that question on the organic chem test. I won't miss it again.
