Default 2nd gear Problem

Hey guys, I’m having a really weird issue with my 2nd gear on my 02 z06. So about 50% of the time at low rpm going from first to second, it will either A get stuck and not go in like there’s a wall blocking off second, or B not grind but do a little jolt going in. Then the other 50% of the time it’s perfectly fine going into second. However at higher rpm when I’m flooring it or shifting fast it goes it perfectly fine 100% of the time. Really not thinking it’s a synchro since higher rpm it’s fine and it doesn’t grind it just doesn’t like to go in sometimes. Thoughts? Also it works better if I only push the clutch down right at the engagement point instead of all the way to the floor 🤷🏻‍♂️

Welcome to the forums. Have you considered using a different type of trans gear oil?

Second gear takes most of the abuse in a manual transmission besides 1st and reverse. If there is excessive wear on the second gear, you might need to replace second gear to fix the issue. If the clutch is dragging and not completely disengaging that can make for harder shifting also. Bleeding air and replacing fluid from the clutch system is also a common issue. I'm not sure about an oil additive might be something to check into.

the thing is though everyone whose ever said they’ve had a synchro problem has an issue at higher rpm not lower rpm. At high rpm it goes into second butter smooth for mine. It’s just low rpm it likes to catch

You might try taking by your local transmission shops or Chevy Dealer and get their feel on your issue. There could have been a recall years back. If fluids and adjustments don't resolve the issue the only thing left is internal. Slide gear, synchros, shift fork, and maybe 2nd gear if worn.

There's also the possibility of the ball at the end of the stick being worn. And when going slow you're probably not pulling as hard. My bet is going to be linkage related, which I believe is internal on the newer cars.

It might help the shifting to lubercate the the bottom of the shifter and the sliding linkage assembly. But that might not fix the hitting the brick wall issue at low rpms.
