Well according to KBB.com it says that for a 2000 targa with that many miles and an automatic with suspension package the Excellent price for private sale is 23800. The good condition is 22500. How good is the car?? Is it tore up? than maybe not

I got my 2002 with 28k miles on it as well as all preformance mods includingsupercharger with both clear top and silver top for $26,250. I think you can get something with a few less miles for around the same price.

KBB is bull, dont go with their prices, there way to high. That actually sounds like a good price, seems like he has it priced just a tad bit higher then Private Party value in clean condition. A 56K car most likely will not be in the highest condition there is, not because of mistreating, but because of normal 56K wear. Sounds like a cool car, offer him 20,000 - 21000 and u should have it!

Give him $20,500 and drive it home! Sounds like a nice ride.
