Default Driver Side Door - Failure - Hyper Extension!

I recently bought a C5 and within a week a crack eminated in the drivers side door (inside in the fiberglass vertically from the trianglar piece) from just openning and closing it normally. It is an 04 and I figured this must be a failure due to a manufacturing defect but the authorized GM facilities would not cover this under warranty and stated it was due to hyper extension of the door! Has anyone else had this problem? If I had opened it extremely hard or reversed into something with the door open I could understand it, but just normal opening and closing this seems highly suspect. Luckily the mazda dealer I bought it from sorted it out and did a very good job. I will certainly go back to this dealership especially for another vette. The body shop seemed to think this was a common problem and they stated that the bushing designed by GM seemed ineffective in limiting the travel of the door. I was wondering about putting some additional stops in. Has anyone done this, or am I the only one who has experienced this?

Ive had no problems what so ever on my 02 C5. Are you sure the car has a clean history?

I'd run a car-fax, to see if it was ever in any type of acident. I ran one before I bought my car.

It checked out clean and the dealer actually knew the guy who had it from new on the original lease. He went back to check with the guy if he had anything done "off the record" and he hadn't (plus being a lease car there would be no value in him doing so other than protecting insurance). The car is flawless with the exception of the problem I just had.
