My 1999 vette overnight settled down in the front end. The next morning I notice the front spolier evenly resting on the ground. What caused this to happen? Did a part break or become loose? Please help in finding what could have happen.

 

Check your front leaf spring to see if it failed. I've never heard of this happening on a C5, but there's always a first time.

Thanks Dave! You hit the target dead center. It is the front spring. Now the fun begins to replace with a new one. It will always remain a mystery to me how a spring can fail with only 22,700 miles on the car. Oh-well chalk it up as a first. MANY THANKS FOR THE REPLY and HELPING ME FINDING THE CAUSE.

 

Many years ago, I was driving my 68 down a side road when all of a sudden, the back end dropped like a rock. Sure enough, the rear leaf spring had rusted enough to snap. I'm fairly certain that the C5's springs are fiberglass (that's the type I put in my 68), which makes it more puzzling as to why yours failed. By the way, Vette Brakes has a fantastic selection of suspension components for Corvettes and Camaros. I bought most of my 68's hardware from them and every part came with detailed procedures for installation.

wow I'd have never thought the spring would fail. Thats just amazing. One thing to file under "check it just incase"

At least thats not to hard to fix.

 

I removed the composite spring on my 86 during a restore. Have to remove the lower control arms 1st. Be careful and support them with jack stands as there is tension on them. I did it with no engine in my car, hence no weight on the front end []. Getting it out was fairly easy, putting it back together was another story. Had to wrap chain around frame and lower control arm, then use a bottle jack between the upper frame and chain to physically jack the chain to pull lower control arm up to attach lower ball joint. Since you are not pulling your engine you can use the weight of the vehicle to settle back on the lower ball joints. Good Luck. [8D]
