Default ??? Installing safety harness

Hi everyone,

I just ordered a Sparco R100 seat and a harness for my 2000 coupe. My question is will I need to get a harness bar? I really dont want one in the car and was wondering if I can anchor the harness in the the area behind the seat. Was thinking of bolting the mounting hardware right into the "lip" area behind the seat. I can weld in reinforcement if needed.

Would that be allowed by the sanctioning body you are racing under? Never put a harness in a vette but I have built a few racecars and everything I ever heard about harneses had the shoulder harness mounting even with or below shoulder level with a limit of a 45 degree angle from shoulder to mount if mount is below shoulder level. I don't know about a C5,but neither my C3 or C4 would meet that requirement if the mount was on the lip of the rear floor. I have seen detachable harness bars that can be quickly removed for street use.
Good Luck!
Ron
