O2 sensor codes with supermaxx headers?
I am thinking about buying a used set of supermaxx longtube headers with highflow cats and X-pipe as-is but the person that onwned them before only installed them for a brief period andsaid they kept giving him a "O2 sensor code" could that be a sign of a bad O2 sensor or bad cats or does that usually happen after initially installing the system.
thanks
thanks
The headers arent the problem with getting codes. Its the 02 sensors that do it. Just an idea....but ask if they used 02 extenders? If not that could be the problem. Cutting the 02 and adding wire to make it longer changes the resistance and could cause the codes. You shouldnt have any issues with it seeing that it has cats.He could have had a bad sensor too. I just orderd a set for mine but have had long tubes on all my cars. Hope this helps
You can buy dummy O2 sensors that screw in, hook up to the computer, and tell it everything is fine no matter way.You still have the other two sensors, but itmeans you really must stay on top of things and check that fuel-air is okay once in a while (i.e., you no longer have the car able to tell you anything is wrong if things go bad), but you get no O2 codes.
Lee,
How do you check that the fuel-air is ok? I have dummy O2 sensors that LG recommended to install with their pro longtube headers??? I obviously don't want to damge my car or shorten it's life......Thanks!

You'll have NO problems from having dummy 02 sensors.
On a well-tuned twister, an 02 sensor does [next-to] nothing. Only when the state of tune degrades, and your burn degrades, does the 02 sensor tell the ECM tochange the ingredients inthe recipe. And even THAT ismore sofor air quality control, and less so for your cats' (catalytic convertors) health.
The 02 does the same thing for an old L98, as it does for an LS2, LT1, Lyounameit! And what does L stand for anyway? Lingenfelter??? Anybody know the answer to that one?????????
