Default Ok, HONKER update

Well it's done. Took me about 3 hours from start to finish. Had to finally send the wife and daughter shopping, kept getting distracted, .
Anyway. As for the install it was really pretty simple. The radiator cover came out very easy, and I was thinking this was going to be the biggest pain, but that wasn't the case at all. The most difficult and time consuming was mounting the intake base to the radiator cover, YES even after marking the location before removing it. DON'T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED THAT THE TEMPLATE THEY GIVE YOU IS RIGHT! Mine was off by 1/4" on 1 side, and 3/8" on the other. What you are actually marking is the filter housing not the base that gets attached to the cover. I would suggest anyone doing this install take there time here, and take some measurements. I ended up centering the template in the area I marked, leaving approximately 1/4" gap inside the "taped" area. It ended up fitting perfectly when I reinstalled everything.
Overall I would say this is an excellent kit, very well made, and alot of thought put in the design. Yes, expensive, but well worth it.
I did do the idle relearn procedure even though I didn't know if I had to or not. Took it for a drive, about 32 miles, and you could definately feel the extra HP. Now I would say don't expect an over whelming difference here, but I could definately feel a difference.
Rita I know you have your install coming up this month, I would definately tell them about the template, and double check their measurements before they cut it out. The good thing about this though, is I believe you could be about 1/4" off and there is enough "flex" in the radiator cover to compensate.

I hope as I drive it more I will continue to feel the difference, if not than I will still be completely satisfied with the Callaway Honker.
Here's a couple AFTER pics

Hi Rich,
Congrats on doing an excellent job and thanks for sharing what you experienced. I'll be sure to mention that the template might be less than exact. Now, where are you planning on going for your extended warranty? I'm thinking we'll have to go with GM Direct but not sure. Any thoughts?

Have fun and keep us posted.

Thanks Dave
I plan on taking it out tomorrow on a nice secluded country road here, weather permitting, and open it up a bit...
What a great kit from Callaway!

Thanks Rita
and can't wait to hear from you when you get yours installed.
As far as the warranty, I think GM direct is the best bet.

Thank You!
and I have had her out a few times already. It seems like it gets just a little quicker everytime I take it out. Yesterday I really put my foot in it out on this country road, I had this Nissan riding me for about 2 miles, we came to a stop sign, and I nailed it when I took off. As I glanced back in the rear view, he was pushing it pretty hard you could tell, but I kept gaining easily. I was doing 100 before I knew it, and it was time to STOP! Mainly because of the STOP sign, hahaha.
Anyway yea it feels nice to have a little extra HP. Still got a few more mods to do, but they have to wait till I put my new rotors and pads on, that pulsating pedal is driving me nuts. []

Default HEY, RICH - RE: Ok, HONKER update

Hi Richard,
How are you liking your Callaway Honker? Is it everything you had hoped it would be? I'm still waiting and now having second thoughts.

Thanks in advance.
Take care, stay safe.
Rita
