Question about possible dyno results

RE: Question about possible dyno results
Hi Dave,
I am using JBA on Convoy, off of Balboa. They were referred by a friend, so hopefully they will be straight shooters and not try to take advantage of a female. I appreciate your info because it helps me have a better understanding of what to expect. I will be sure to post my results. They charge $90 and that includes 2 pulls.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Take care. Stay safe.
Rita

RE: Question about possible dyno results
Hi, Rita,
I spoke to the guys at JBA, a couple of years ago. They seem to be very knowledgeable about all kinds of performance mods and resulting dyno numbers. As I ca recall, they have a Mustang dyno. I believe they can give you the raw data that can later be converted to SAE or STD-corrected HP and torque. From what I understand, the numbers you get from a Mustang dyno are typically lower than those from a DynoJet dyno. I guess we will see.....!

RE: Question about possible dyno results
You will get all sorts of opinions on which dyno is better and why. The dynoject measures Hp through pure acceleration of the rollers, the Mustang does that, too, but can also apply a "load" (resistance) to simulate air resistance at top speed. Many people sayMustangs register a bit lower but it really does not matter: the important points are;
- you really can't compare tests done on any two dynos by any two shops, period, even if the same brand and type of dyno
- what matters is the improvement you get -- if a set of mods makes you car increase from 300 to 330 HP as measured on a dyno, you can reasonably claim that your base (350 HP) car is now 10% more powerful, of the equivalent of 385 HP, etc.

RE: Question about possible dyno results
Lee,
I agree, but don't think that Rita has a baseline (stock). My baseline and subsequent mod dyno runs were done on the same dyno at the same shop, so I have a good idea as to how much of an increase my mods produced.
