Service Column Lock
Hey guys, i did the recall on my 2001 corvette back in 2004 for the service column lock and just now the same exact thing happened. So i got it towed to the @#$% and now they are saying i need a new BCM which is about $1200 and a harness for 114.00. Now i need help because that just doesnt sound right to me? Is that what causes it and is that the route i have to go?

It's hard to believe that the EBCM has anything to do with the column lock assembly. However, my EBCM went out on me last year some time. I shipped it off to ABS Fixer and had it fixed for $150 with lifetime warranty.
Many years ago, the @#$% did the recall fix on my column lock and like yours, it failed soon afterward. I had my car towed to them, they replaced a component and as soon as I got home, I installed a column lock bypass (about $50) and have never had that issue again.
So, you may want to tell them to fix the column lock (it has to be unlocked when you install the bypass kit) and leave the EBCM as-is.
Use my procedure to remove the EBCM and send it to ABS Fixer.

Buy the column lock bypass from any of a number of vendors.
Install and be done with it.

the dealer will only install a blocking plate on auto trannys only...don't you ever wonder when chevy replaces a part they know is faulty why they dont "fix" the faulty part instead of replacing with another faulty part that will break again....usually just after warranty is up...I've had column lock fixed twice, fuel sending unit fixed twice, fixed my headlight motors with brass gears instead of replacing with factory plastic ones again....just venting,I really love my ! just not that impressed with chevys fixes
