SLP?
Along with my past posts....headers/x pipe/exhaust (for sound only) is probably a good place to start...at least until next spring....
Lee or BMWDiver:
Do you guys have any experience with SLP.....as in SLP C5 1.75in Tuned Long Tube Headers, SLP C5 High Flow Catalytic Converters, and SLP C5 H Pipe/Balance Tube? Lee, you mentioned Borla as good exhaust...I've also heard that an X pipe is better than the stock H pipe or any other H pipe. Are high flow cats even worth it? Or just get headers and a new X pipe and cat back exhaust? Thanks. I want to get the exhaust done before winter hits....possibly the x pipe (if you guys recommend it) and maybe even the headers....at the same time. Thanks.

Yeah, of course. I've bought a lot of stuff from SLP. It stands for Street Legal Performance. They made the SS versions of the Camaro for GM for quite some time: upgrading the standard model to SS.
My experience is that they offer serious stuff that works well, aimed at people who want results rather than pretty stuff to look at. They are trustworthy and stand behind their products, and their equipment fits, works well, but it is often not the prettiest or the finest or te most extreme: for example in my opinion the welds and finish on the B&B long tubes I bought from Lingenfelter for my C5 were much better finished and polished than the long tubes from SLP that I put on my Camaro (but it cost 40% more). And the impression I get is that if you buy all SLP you'll be fast but not the fastest at the track (they might disagree). But again, you spend noticeably less sometimes.
They are particularly good at selling packages: i.e., stuff that works well together, at a really good price, in a package of everything you need --> if you buy a heads and cam package it will have all the parts right and the head porting, etc., will work well with the cam, etc. They make a 402 cubic inch engine upgrade (stroker short block or long block that will fit perfectly) that they put it together and it is quite a good price although you have to realize that the crank, etc, is not as bulletproof as some others for a bit more $$$ -- but certainly good enough if you aren't going to put a lot of nitrous on it, etc. Again, I ended up buying a 408 instead from Horsepower Engineering in Houston, but I wanted some special hardened components inside for the Camaro and a lot of nitrous. The SLP package is a great street engine, I think.
Other place to look for sure is MTI: MotorSports Technology Incorporated, in Houston. They make the ZO7 corvette package and car that won a recent Cannonball of one lap of amaerica or something. A google on ZO7 corvette will probably turn them up. They make really good stuff and push the limit on street legal performance about as far as anyone, but are sort of disorganized: sometimes forget to send all the stuff you order at the same time, etc.
And of course Lingenfelter -- never can go wrong with them if you have the money. Talk to Ed Potter if he is still there - knows his stuff.
