Default transmission

I have a 1999 with less than 20k miles. I was on a highway at 65 MPH and max accelerated to 100+. The car did not sound as
though it was shifting correctly. When I shortly thereafter left a stop sign the transmission was slipping. This continued for several
miles until I got the car in my garage. I called a transmission shop and attempted to drive the car but the transmission was
slipping badly. I arranged to have the car towed. When I tried to back the car out of the garage it would not go into any gear.
There has been no fluid loss although I cannot check the fluid level. Has anyone experienced this type of problem and if so what
was the diagnosis and resolution of the problem?

Is this a manual or auto tranny?

Does the transmission fluid smell burnt? You more than likely and smoked your transmission.
