01 Computer errors, dealers are telling me they 'can't fix it'. I bet y'all can help
Hi all,
I am not quite sure what I should be searching here. Can you lend me a hand, the dealerships are stumped or not working for me.
2001 C5 with 46,750 miles.
We are getting a rotation of errors on the LCD of this Corvette. First it was Traction Control is on, but the button was off. GM checked it out, they claimed to fix it. They replaced the emergency flashers. Since then, same message comes up. We also get other errors that come and go, and the dealer can't seem to figure it out. Saying the systems are fine. ABS, check engine, check gauges (they will go dead). We took it to a different dealer, they couldn't replicate, finally saw the errors, then tell us they can't fix "it". This is the second dealer who are sayig they can't fix it, something about a part not being available, and that they wouldn't trust pulling a part of a wrecked or after market.
I apologize for not having better details, I'm going to have to call these dealers for their notes as my mom isn't sure what they are telling her. I am calling into Chevy to get the actual service tech notes to add details.
So, have any of you ever seen this topic or issue in other threads? Seemingly the computer is spitting out errors, but once the car is restarted the errors go away. Dealer says the car is driveable and safe.
Thanks for reading and any replies!

Welcome. What have you got yourself into? I don`t have a 2001 corvette, had a 2000 silverado (long story). Have you done a Carfax on this car? This might be the reason someone sold it. The fact the car runs ok but doesn`t store codes is odd, I wonder if they did a complete check on the wiring, wiring connections and fuses (the ECU has to have 12 volts to the ecm to store and hold codes, and another 12volts to operate.) In 1980 on chevy`s first ecm`s did not store error codes, (one power source) once a falt was detected it held it untill the car was turned off, then it was gone, so you had to read the error code while the car was running. That's what is odd about yours. Sounds like you need to keep looking for that right person to put his finger on the problem. sometimes it takes a while. It sounds like this is all related to one thing. Good Luck..
Ha! We surely don't know the scope of pain we have welcomed onto ourselves! I'm not quite sure (not holding codes) is the right way to describe the issues. It's more of rotating errors that pop on the LCD then go away, then it's a different error then pops back up. I'm going to work on getting the details from the dealerships. Thanks for the list of items to check, will do for sure.
It`s sad your new baby is ill, these types of problems are not easy. I`m sure it`s related to one or two things. The fact these error codes keep rolling around is strange, I never had one do that. Find the right guy to dig into this and it will be over.
I have seen this on other cars. What it has been on the ones I know of is a bad or broken ground wire for the computer. They can throw all kinds of ghost codes and no amount of new parts has any effect. What really kicks your but is when it can be weeks between episodes. Good luck.
That's the thing about this car, haven`t seen any history. That is the thing about corvettes (more so) than most cars is the grounds. Hard to tell if it has been worked on previously, that makes a difference on what's been done. there`s usually a trail when stuff has been messed with. stick with it, it can come together. If it`s been played with a lot you can have loose contacts in your connectors, also hard to find sometimes. a good tech will figure it out.
