Default Charging problems !!!

I have an 82 with a charging problem. The volt gauge is reading up around 17 volts, and if the car sits for a week or two the battery is completely dead. It is a brand new battery and i've returned it to the parts store where it was recharged and tested, the battery is ok. Is it possible that the voltage regulator is bad ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

it sounds like it, 17 volts is way to much!should be 14 to 12 volts , to much voltage is no good, have your alternator checked out,[8D] also check and see if you have any draws in the car, like radio, lights, ect will draw the battery down.i had a bad regulator in my alt, my battery would be dead in two days, check the alternator first, good luck

Thanks for the feed back Corvette King, Went out and got a new regulator, took out the alt. and removed the back. after looking inside it was quite obvious that the alt. was cooked. put it back together went back and got a new alt.... PROBLEM SOLVED !!! Volt meter now just a hair above 13 volts.

Thanks Again
