Hey Guys,
I could use a little help here.
Tuned up my 74 yesterday and it ran really good until today when I tried to start it again.
Took me a good number of trys before it started and after that plenty of pinging at any speed.
Car has 350 with points and stock distributor.

Update!!!
Turns out the noise I am hearing is not pinging but a metalic noise coming from either the new clutch I installed last week or the Muncie trans I had rebuilt.
Noise goes away when I put it in netural or push the clutch in.

 

I put the throw out bearing in backwards once. Kinda acted like that.

 

Ping problem has been solved.
An exhaust leak in one of my headers. Sounds just like pinging.

Thats cool you found the prob!!! My last vette was a auto 74 and it did the same thing, but it sounded like random power grinders on steel that would act up very randomly, it turned out to be the nuetral safty switch, under the center shift console, I would have never found it if it wasnt for a salty 80 year old retired crysler tech that suggested it
