Default WONT SHIFT!!!!!!!!!!

ok i have a 95 vette automatic with 104k on it. i bought it a couple weeks back and it ran great. today i parked it in a lot and went back to it and started it and right away i noticed the asr light and asr off and check engine light on, so im like what the heck. so i drive it down the road and the dang thing goes in 1st and 2nd pretty rough and i couldnt even get it in drive or od. so i pulled over to a gas station and dissconected the battery to clear the computer. and it worked for about 60 miles then it came right back on. during the time the lights were off the car ran great. so i go to autozone to get the codes read and we cant find were to stick the plug in to find the codes.
to top it off i think this is the worst day of my life.. please shed some light on it

First thing I'd do is go back to the person I bought it from and complain. Depending on your State laws you may have a lemon law complaint. Who knows, before he sold it to you, he could have reset everything so it would drive fine for awhile (I once test drove a car where the guy insisted on showing me for the entire ride how great the stereo was .... but that was only because he didn't want me to hear the CV joints clicking away). As far as the codes and the OBDII code reader connection. I believe it has to be within 12 inches of the steering column. Let us know what the problem is once you get it figured out.

I've never dealt with that particular model before, but most cars I've dealt with the connector is either within view with some type of rubber cap on it, or it's underneath the panel below the steering wheel. It sounds like some sensor in the tranny must be acting up (or loose). Maybe a speed sensor. Everything else works fine (speedometer, gear position indicator, etc)?
