First Corvette - Should I buy warranty
Hello All -
I just bought my first Corvette. Its a 2002 Z06, silver.
Ive been around the LSx series engines since they have come out back in the 90s, so I'm somewhat familiar with the car.
I bought it used from a local dealer with almost 28k miles on it.
They, of course, offered to sell me the extended warranty for $3500!
One new car sales guy suggested that I look at http://www.autowarranties.com and buy it there. That recomendation was before the fiance lady offered the dealers warranty to me.
How do you all feel about extended warranties?
That company has quoted me $1633 for a warranty that cover everything except whats below. The deductible is $100. The coverage is for up to 75k miles and an additional 3 years (which ever comes first). I don't think its a bad price, but I don't really know.
Here are the exclusions:

The work can be done at any shop or dealer. It does not limit me to a certain list of companies like some insurance companies will.
I am debating wether or not I will break something over $1600.
I plan on long tubes and nitrous (maybe a cam). With that added abuse, how will the rear end hold up? I dont know much about the rear drivetrain on these cars, but it looks expensive
Im not too wooried about detonating a T56, but the synchros are also covered in the warranty and the labor to replace them. What is the typical cost of parts and labor to replace the synchros?

Though i dont yet own a Vette i would not buy a Warranty for any car i purchase especially if i plan on adding anything to it. To me its a waste of 1600 bux. Just keep the 1600 in a bank account then if something breaks there is the money to fix it.
i have that warranty on my 2001 c5 2300dollars.hadto used it 2 months out 900 dollars ac repair cost me 100 buy it..no repair at dealership less than several hundred. corvettes required an expert that means dealership. in am 63 years young. believe me tommy
I bought my 2000 covert with 38,000 miles 2 years ago from a small dealer. I bought the WINN company 36 month, 80K miles max, warranty. The price was $1800 and so far I've used almost $900 on a bad drive axle. I still have 12 months to go and feel it was a very wise decision. It's very well worth the $$ for the piece of mind it gives me and who knows what will happen in the next year! Ron S
