Default Introduction and a couple of questions...

Hello everybody. I have been a Pontiac man for some time I own an heads and cam stock bottom end no power adder 11 sec LT1 TA, and a customized restored 79 firebird that I`ve had since I was 16, now 36. I`m looking to get into the vette world now. Getting older and the wife is begging for a vert.

For my budget I`m looking for a 99-01 vert 6spd. Primarily something to cruise around in, but I do plan initially to add a corsa cat back, blackwing cold air, and a ls1 edit dynotune. Any Idea`s what a car like this would dyno & mph in the 1/4? I suppose the 01 would dyno a little higher than the other 2 w/ the LS6 intake. I have the TA for drag racing so, I would be more concerned w/ mph here than et..

Any problem area`s to look for. Any oil cunsumption problems w/ the 01?

Not to mention I`d have a vaunted LSJuan.. Lol.. I always get hell from my LS1 buddies about me still running an LTJuan.

Welcome. A Blackwing and a Corsa cat back will not add much Hp to the RW - maybe ten overall. A had a Blackwing on my ZO6 when it was stock and was never certain it really did anything (never saw proof that it didn't add maybe 3-5 HP, but no more).

Stock, 01 M6s do about 305-315 RWHP. CAI and cat-back might up it to 310-320. Its not necessary to have a dyno tune with those mods but my experience is it helps even a stock engine. Long-tube headers do a lot, though, on these engines. I'd recommend a good set.

You might want to go the General Tech pages and check about halfway down on the first page of Threads: Mods and Getting 500 HP talkes about modifiying the LSx engines.

The only weakness to make certain of is that the factory recall on the steering column lock has been done - the steering wheel lock could engage while you were driving, usually while you were going around a corner.

Aside from saying "welcome" I don't think there is anything I can add that Lee didn't already say. So welcome to the site and good luck with your vehicle search.

Hey, another new vette owner here. I bracket a '95 LT1 Formula and own 2 other stock birds. I've owned many GTO's and several Firebirds including a '70 RAIII Formula, '71 and '80 TA's. At 50 I'm moving to the vette. Wife hated the word Corvette unit she drove a C6 this weekend. I'm placing my order Wednesday. Like you I have to hear **** from my LS1 buddies about finally getting a "real" engine.

You'll like the corvette and the LS2 in it. They are great engines. I know so many people were upset when the LS first came out that Chevy was abandoning the good old original small block heritage, but you have to move on. The LS engines are awesome.

I just put a Overton cam in my now too. He`s just up the road from me. Thats funny you hear the mess about getting a real engine too... I`d like a c6 but w/ the TA, 79 Bird & Durango, not to mention private school for the kids, its just a little too much. So I plan on spending about 25k on a vette.
