Default Need Mechanical Advice on a 1967 327/300

Hate to bother you all again. Question on mechanical to see if someone has experience on this. I am looking at a 1967 coupe 327/300. It has a couple of issues, but the one thing that I don't understand is a noise coming from the drive train. The clutch may need adjustment, but I don't think that is the noise. As you drive the car, there is a clicking which seems to come from under the tunnel right between the seats. It does not speed up when you speed up the car. It is a more consistent click that also doesn't match when you clutch. It clicks maybe every 3-5 seconds or so. Anyone have an idea of what this might be?

Noises are sometimes difficult to diagnose no matter what the car. I've not experienced this with my C2. I suggest as a first step you put jack stands under both sides of the rear axle to lift the rear wheels off the ground, and wheel chocks in front/behind a front wheel. Have someone stand outside of car. Start the car and slowly put in gear and get rear wheels going. See if it is possible to better isolate the noise source. You may also find that if the noise goes away while up on the stands that means it is a clearance issue of some sort. Good luck!

Thanks. I may not be able to convince the seller to do this. May have a better chance just talking down the price

It might be worthwhile if you have a mechanic you trust, to take it to him and let him try to diagnose it. If the current owner does not want you to do that then it might be time to walk away unless you can talk him down a lot.

Thanks. I spoke to a corvette shop that estimates $5k to $6k in repairs.

Just curious as to what they thought the problem was that was that expensive.

They thought that it would be a combination of transmission, clutch and drive shaft. Also needs a carb rebuild as it's leaking all over the manifold. They said transmission could be up to $2k, carb rebuild $600, clutch $2k, drive shaft $1k. They threw out a number not knowing or seeing the car. I know from experience with shops to expect the worse once you go down the rabbit hole.

They must have a couple of boat payments coming due. 🤔
