Default Alternator

Has anyone recommended checking the alternator output?

The reason for the oil is to improve the seal in order to get a good compression reading, not to clean the carbon out.

i understand what the oil will do. but i thought i read it might be locked up from sitting for two years with antifreeze in the cylinder. if i recall correctly, i was told that the atf was a little better for trying to lubriate it and break it loose. i could be wrong, but thats what i was told, and thats how i deal with that type of problem. thanx reyy

I misunderstood. I agree. ATF will penetrate more. I've used a quart in the crankcase of old engines w/ stuck lifters or rings and it freed them up. Not sure if it did any damage tho.

In this case, when turning the engine through by hand, I'd simply lube the cylinders due to the fact that the engine hasn't been turned through in two years or so, and if one of the pistons is alittle froze up, the oil may keep the piston from scratching the cylinder somewhat when it drags the contaminants along after breaking free, that's if indeed it's frooze and you can break it free by hand. I'm saying "oil" so it's just something that slicks the cylinders. Tranny fluid is a good item f/ freeing up stuck lifters, and wrecking bearings if you run the engine too long w/ it in the crankcase.
I hope that if you do have a frooze piston, that it's just a slight freeze, as if it's really locked up, even if you get it unstuck by hand, it's still time to pull the engine apart.
