Default '82 fuel system replacement

Does anyone know the legalities of replacing the fuel system? If I buy all epa approved parts, is it OK to remove the crossfire injection and replace it with a carb?

Also, I've heard that it is legal to replace fuel system, engine, and exhaust as long as all the original emmissions equipment is all installed and it is from a later year vehicle. Therefore, if I bought a totalled 1995 ZR-1 with a perfect engine, it would be legal to install it in the C3. Anyone know about this?

To my understanding, if your cars meets the epa requirements for the year of the upgraded equipment, you'll be O. K.

And in most states, 25+ yrs old is exempt anyway. Some states require that you still have a cat installed, but the rest of the junk is not needed anymore. My state is a cat-only state after 25 yrs, no testing required, and all my stock emissions stuff is long gone. I put on some Hedman headers a couple weeks ago and junked the ram's horn stuff. My EGR and AIR went away last year during some projects under the hood.

bill.

I have read a lot of information posted on the Crossfire Injection Vault and it isa wonderful site, but it leaves me asking "Why would I want to leave CFI on my car?" I don't really care about keeping it original, I don't have to worry about emissions testing, and I don't want to invest a bunch of money replacing worn CFI components that were essentially the first electronic fuel injection system offered in massive quantities. It does not seem to be great technology.

Therefore, why would I not investin a good carb and manifold?

"It does not seem to be great technology."

You've just made a good point as to why you would change to a carb setup. I never had the cross fire injection, but I haven't heard any good things about it.
