Hi and welcome to the forum.
On my 74 when you open the door the switch completes the circuit to ground and the lights go on.
I would trace that switch wire and see if its what else is hooked to it.
My wipers have two seperate ground wires-a black wire from the WW to a bolt on the bell housing and a seperate ground under the dash for the wiper switch.
Mabye the PO was Bubba and the wires were put together.
Hope that helps, PG.

I agree. It sounds like you have an "open" ground in the windshield washer circuit. The W/W circuit is finding a temporary path to ground through the door switch circuit (don't ask me how, electricity seeks the path of least resistance). Once you close the door you lose the path to ground.

There is a ground wire that goes to a bolt on the bell housing. This wire is often mistakenly connected to the starter. It is the ground for both of the problems your having. Should be a black wire with a large ring terminal to fit over the bellhousing bolt. This was the first Corvette mysteryI solved on my car. It can drive you nuts until you find the wire.

Thanks all for the help: To help others ,I found a short in the connector to the blower motor relay. One of the wires on the conector was touching the side of the relay causing the short. Who knew that the wipers, blower and doors were all connected.

That little quirk of automotive wiring is what makes it so much fun to troubleshoot electrical problems.

Glad you found the problem and thanks for the update.
