Default Bolt Questions

Two questions:

What length header bolts are required for a 74, with SB 350

Are 12 point heades better that the standard heads.

Thanks,

Schoon

Use 6 pt bolt heads and 6 pt sockets. There is more surface to surface.
Less chance of socket slipping off and bustin' a knuckle.

Bolt length is indicated by the thickness of the flange. Several manufacturers (Moroso, Arp?) are making locking header bolts, there is some kind of an insert that locks the bolt in once tightened, advertised to end the repeated retightening of header bolts. If your primaries are over 1 5/8 on some headers it is very difficult to get a wrench on a hex head bolt making the 12 pointers a little easier to work with.

There's also a reduced size hex head header bolt that has a flange that's slightly bigger than the bolt diameter.

I've used socket head bolts for those really tough ones.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.
