If this is your first vette and you just purchased the car you might want to go back to the seller and demand a refund.

You are looking at a major project with a great deal of labor involved. If your door pillars and body mounts are in bad shape you can almost bet that your windshield frame is just as bad. Also check your frame in the kick up area in front of the rear wheels that also is prone to rust.

In many cases these problems are cause to walk away from the project because the time, effort, and money you will invest in it may never be recouped. Unless the car is rare , collectible, or has some sentimental value you might want to walk away from it now, that might be your best decision at this point.

I don't want to be a bearer of bad news but it is better to walk now then in several months and several thousand dollars from now. If the car is in bad shape rust wise it can be a nightmare.

I had all of the interior gutted out before I attempted the body mounts, the worst ones were at the front pillars but with carefull use of the smoke wrench, lots of patients, a little WD40, and gentel persuasion with the impact wrench I was able to change all the rubber mounts. I jacked up one side at a time in the area I was replacing, I think I had the steering column out at the time.

Thanks for the response. If you haven't tried Kroil, I highly recommend it. I used to use WD-40, Liquid Wrench, and lots of heat and hammering. Usually a couple of applications of Kroil do it.
